Cigarette Litter Prevention and Recycling Program
Keep Rutherford County Beautiful is proud to participate in the Keep America Beautiful Cigarette Litter Prevention & Recycling Program. Through funding from Keep America Beautiful and the support of TerraCycle, there are currently six receptacles located in Rutherford County. There are two in the Town of Spindale near the Thermal Belt Rail Trail, and one at each of the four public river accesses (Coxe Road, Gray's Road, 221, and 221A).
How It Works
Cigarette filters are comprised of tightly compacted microfibers of plastic, which get recycled through our program. First, the cigarette receptacles are installed in key locations, such as downtown areas, near trails, or at river accesses.
